Summer’s on, the school’s out, and it doesn’t take long for the kids to get restless doing the same activities day in and day out. So why not pack up the family and head off on a new adventure? Check out these must-do family trips and get ready to give your kids a summer adventure they won’t forget.
Grand Canyon
For a great outdoor journey head to America’s most visited national park. Ride in on a restored WWII era passenger train then stretch your legs on one of the Grand Canyon’s many hiking trails, which cater to every ability level and age. Have them participate in the Junior Ranger program so they get an even more in-depth understanding of the area, then take them to the Yavapai Geology Museum to test what they’ve learned. Shuttle buses allow you to take the kids straight to the trails or bring everyone back to the parking lot after a long day.
Walt Disney World, Orlando
We know, we know—this one is so classic it’s barely worth mentioning. However, we are here to tell you that this trip is for adults too! Do you ever wish you could leave the adult world behind for a while and just feel like a kid again? Especially if you have older children, you can take a trip on the big-kid rides at the Magic Kingdom, enjoy a Lion Kind musical at Animal Kingdom Park, or become a world wine connoisseur at Epcot without the hassle of actually travelling the globe. All the while, the kids will enjoy the magic experiences that Disney World has to offer.
Washington D.C.
Take the kids to the country’s capital for fun and wholly American trip. Teach the kids about the country’s history by taking them to the White House, Lincoln memorial, or the Museum of Natural History. Kick back with a free concert on the capitol’s West Lawn, or check out the animals at the Smithsonian National Zoo. The International Spy Museum is also sure to get their imaginations running. There are many fun and free family-friendly activities in-store when you take a trip to the city of presidents.
Myrtle Beach
If you are looking for a beach vacation with the family, Myrtle Beach should be high up on your list. Not only are the sandy shores perfect for days out in the sun, but many attractions will keep the kids entertained for the duration of your entire vacation. Family Kingdom Amusement park is great for rides for the whole family, while Broadway Grand Prix will entertain kids with arcade games, go-karts and mini-golf.
Indianapolis
What city could be more kid-friendly than one with its own Children’s Museum? Art centres and kids’ zones at local community centres will also keep them busy. Teach them some history at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, head outside to pedal boat on the canal or splash around at the water park. There is lots to do for kids, adults, and the whole family together in this vibrant city.
