Identifying Dangerous Animals

I’m kind of a jumble of emotions today.  The child psychiatrist appointment went well in that I loved the doctor and connected with her.  She asked lots of great questions and paid attention and gave me a big squishy hug at the end.  I’m still processing the insights she had and our next steps.  It’s a lot to take in.  It’s just a lot, all of it is a lot.

With his surgery on Monday and preschool starting up as soon as he’s recovered, I’m pretty much a buzzing satellite of FREAKOUT hovering in orbit around him.

“Are you crying AGAIN,” he asked me today, shaking his head ruefully. “Just remember when I gave my brother the Dora DVD when he fell down.”

Instead of chewing on all of this like a stale wad of angst-gum, I filmed him in the middle of an hour-long animal-toy-arranging festival.  In between bouts of squeezing, he took some time to explain some of his animal identification rules and some helpful tips regarding dangerous predators.

The more you know, man.

Honestly, other than the snakes that proliferate the entire state of Florida, my other least favorite animal are the ants. Dang, they hurt!

My son and I spent about an hour Friday separating his die cast cars by color. These were only the ones he had in the living room. There had to be more than 200 of them. There were at least 8 times that many in his room. All sorted by color.

I am very familiar with the need to sort, and describe, and categorize. You can do this. Once you get past the initial shock of the diagnosis, you can begin to understand the ‘what’ and ‘whys’ of it all. The freakouts and bouts of crying will eventually settle out too.

I’m so glad you liked the psychiatrist! It took us ages to find one we really loved.

Breathe in. Breathe out. This is hard. You’ll make it. I know you’ll make it.

So very very cute! You can get through this and get things figured out. You have a great blog and I am sure what you are going through and blogging about will help other moms looking for clarification.

Also, I’m de-lurking. I’ve been reading you for the last few months. Found your blog through another I read. I’ve also added you to my Link Love page on my own blog.
