Girl Talk Thursday: Shameless Consumerism, Go!

I haven’t participated in GTT for a couple of months.  Thankfully, my soul-sisters over there have kept the dream alive.  We now have topics scheduled again and most of us are going to try to participate each week.  I started this silly meme over a year and a half ago and I love that it gives me (and others) the chance to drop the Serious Blogging mentality and just chatter with other ladies.  (And sometimes dudes.)

Sometimes I get stuck feeling like everything I put in this place needs to be Meaningful or Thoughtful or Funny or I dunno, full of Quality and really?  No.  This is just my place where I put stuff.  And on Thursdays it’s generally fun and goofy stuff.

Such as today’s topic!  Discount and sales sites.  I know everyone has favorites.  The whole recent flood of sales sites is basically my only favorite thing about the recession.  I don’t actually SHOP on them often, but oh do I window shop on them.  Pretending to buy stuff on the Internet is one of my favorite brain-soothing procrastination methods.

Here are my favorites:

  • SlickDeals.net Mostly tech stuff, but sometimes ridiculous amazing Amazon deals.  Like Haribo Bears.
  • RedTagCrazy.com* I don’t shop here often, but once in a while something I can’t resist pops up.  Denim, mmm.
  • KidSteals.com Amazing deals sometimes.  Quick shipping.
  • GreenBabyBargains.com I haven’t bought anything here before but I love that they focus on green stuff.
  • RetailMeNot.com This is a must-check site before you check out on almost any online retailer.
  • Overstock.com Excellent prices on small furniture and party dresses.  Good shipping prices.
  • Kayak.com.  Despite the five gazillion pop ups, it’s a good way to compare airline prices.
  • Hotels.com.  I love the interface for quickly and easily comparing prices on a map.

What are your favorite discount/sales sites?

*That’s an affiliate-ish link, it gives you $5 to spend and gives me $5 to spend if you buy something.

Hoopladoopla.com (created by a friend’s husband) pays you cash to shop through their site and all of the stores have coupons and/or discounts; and woot.com that has a daily special every day. Lots of times it is stuff that I don’t need or want, but it is cool to see what they’ve got. Sometimes the kids woot has pretty good deals. Yesterday it was a Thomas the Train set, but I missed it.
