liftoff

What are your earliest memories? I remember being four and eating a green pepper in pre-K in the back room of the neighborhood rec center. I remember that once in a while the janitor, Jim, would build huge castles using floor mats. I thought it was cool that a man named “gym” built castles in our gym.

Little boy, I hope you remember seeing a rocket ship. I know I always will.

And I hope I always remember finding back roads across central Florida to try to beat the traffic home. Two skinny cows and two skinny calves. A one-lane bridge over a creek. Mailboxes stacked six-high with “pony express” written on the side. Bright green springtime grass and wildflowers and jewel-blue skies with just a wisp of cloud cover here and there.

My boys in the back seat and me and my mom in the front, giggling and pointing across the countryside.

I remember falling out of my grandfather's parked truck and busting my lip. Then watching the blood turn the milk I was drinking red. I remember the same grandfather teaching me to kiss. In a lovely, grandfather way. Not a creepy, molester way. I remember falling to the floor with heaving sobs when I saw the dress my mother wanted me to wear to the first day of kindergarten. I was a tomboy, you see, and despised all things girly.
Thanks for sparking the trip down Memory Lane.

We must live such similar yet such different lives! We made that treck on Friday as well but we didn't come home; stayed in Orlando for the evening. It was a gorgeous day for a launch and it was so packed! We were at the marina next to the park on Hwy 1 – waited for 40 minutes just to use the bathroom at the park – then finally saw the launch. My 4th time – my husbands first! My son is a veteran – my parents have taken him several times. Great video – all I got were some good still images. Thanks for sharing!

I remember my grandfather ( hero) coming home from work and us sharing the magical 2 cookies in his lunchbox he didn't eat that day. Everyday. I remember the smell of sawdust that to this day makes me feel his presence. And until I was a mom, and he was gone I didn't realize that every day that man packed 2 extra cookies in his lunch box and even when hungry he saved them for us to share, he planned that. Everyday and never told me. He was a quite man and I was the only grandchild out of 9 allowed to hang out with him. I remember how special it was. I don't remember enough. so thank you for helping me remember.

i sat in our rocking chair holding the 2 little ones in front of the t.v. last week. they thought it was really cool & i thought it was, too. it reminded me of watching the challenger take off and come down when i was in school. i was a little on edge, even, hoping all would go well for the team. it made me happy to count down with them, watch their wide eyes as the rocket booster blew & the shuttle shot up in the air amidst the smoke.

i bet it was amazing for you.

    I love so much.
One of my first REAL strong memories is tasting mustard for the first time on a pretzel stick at a picnic with my parents.
